WOODY SHAUFLER GIS PORTFOLIO
CAPSTONE PROJECT
For my GIS capstone project I decided to explore how traditonal forms of housing development occur and the potential geospatial technologies have for implementing more sustainable practices like infill-development, while also improving housing equality.
This project evaluates parcels owned the by the local Tacoma Housing Authority (THA) to determine the potential for experimental public houisng and infill-development strategies using micro-housing. Criteria was set to evaluate each parcel based on its spatial relationship with community indicators and current extent of lot utilization. This project is intended to serve as a guide for policy makers, local governments, and non-profit organizations interested in exploring alternatives to traditioanl housing development in the form of cottage sytle tiny house developments within the city of Tacoma.
